CHURCH ACCOUNTS

There are many benefits for bringing your church or church organization accounts to the Credit Union. The following are just a few:

Deposits at Key Bank branches - Deposits can be made at your local Key Bank directly into your Credit Union account, using our deposit slips and we furnish the deposit stamp.  Contact the CU to be set up for this service.

Free Checking - Maintain a minimum balance of $25 in the Share Draft (checking) account and you avoid all service fees, and even earn dividends on all balances over $100.

Variable Rate Share Accounts -A non-term account, similar to a Money Market, that offers rates higher than pass-book savings without maturity dates. Minimum deposit is $10,000, and some rules/fees may apply. See Savings Rates web page.

Certificates of Deposit - Better than market rates and special rates for amounts over $25,000.

Church Loans and 1st Mortgages on parsonages. Finance your parsonage purchase or use the equity in the parsonage to repair sanctuary, roof, parking lot, heating, air conditioning, plumbing, electrical and etc.

Share Draft (Checking) Accounts

Our Share Draft accounts (checking), offer you the savings and convenience you need to manage your personal day-to-day financial affairs.

No Minimum Balance is required, even for church accounts. However, there is a one-time per month service fee of $8 for an account balance below zero at any end-of-day during the month.

Direct Deposit of net pay, pensions or Social Security.

Dividends (interest) paid on accounts with $100 or more.

Courtesy Overdraft Privilege credit lines of $300, automatically on all eligible Share Draft accounts, unless you "Opt Out".  Contact the CU office to get registered.  Courtesy Overdraft Privilege, a non-contractual service to cover your personal checks to a limit of $300.00, became effective Oct. 2, 2006.  This is the "safety net" that you may need to avoid the embarrassment of having your personal checks rejected.  A service for which you are never charged - unless you use it.  Then a per item service fee of $24.00 allows your check to be "covered" and you avoid the NSF fee from your vendor/payee.  For Disclosures Click Here.   Notice:  See the Home Page for important information about "Opting-In" to keep your full ODP Service, after Aug. 15, 2010.

Overdraw Accounts may be linked to checking to cover unexpected clearings. Overdraw accounts must be authorized by the member.

Monthly Statements show complete checking activity, including electronic funds deposits, ATM and Debit Card entries.  EOCCU@Home - if you are registered for on-line banking, you may view your monthly statements on-line and not be sent the mailed version.

IRA Accounts

Your Credit Union carries all of the various IRA accounts to meet your individual needs:  1) Traditional IRA, 2) Roth IRA, and 3) Education (Coverdell Education Savings Accounts - ESA).  Contact Lori Thrasher at ext. 104, or e-mail lthrasher@eoccu.org for further information on your IRA account.

One of the most often asked questions is whether to save with a Traditional or a Roth IRA.  The following are "rule-of-thumb" answers:

  1. Choose a Roth IRA if you don't need the tax break right now.  It's a more flexible investment because, a) You can withdraw regular contributions at any time, tax-free and penalty-free; and b) You do not have to take mandatory distributions at age 70 1/2.
  2. Choose a Traditional IRA if you want the tax deduction right now.  It also makes sense if you anticipate paying taxes at a significantly lower rate in retirement.
  3. Coverdell ESA's offer tax-free distributions and, unlike section 529 Plans, can be used for elementary and high school expenses at most public, private and parochial schools.

A Full disclosure document is enclosed to list the annual and closing fees and the current rates and APY (Annual Percentage Yield) for the IRA certificates.  Click Here.
